A sink water filter overview
The clear transparent water that flows from taps in our homes appears to be the safest liquid for drinking. However, most consumers are quite shocked to discover about the toxic substances that often exist in tap water.
Water that is supplied to our homes is already pre-treated by the water authorities. Unfortunately, because water contains so many different things, and because it has to travel through many pipes and a considerable distance before actually reaching our sinks, it can pick up particles and other things on its way to your property. This is the reason that many people choose to take some action or precaution to ensure that their drinking water is safe to drink. Using a sink water filter is on of the most common methods used by consumers for water filtration.
This type of water filter is one that’s connected directly to the tap on the sink. This filter has a short rubber connector that fits well with the opening of the faucet. When the water is flowing from the faucet, it initially passes through the water filter thereby being filtered before consuming. For that reason, the type of water filter for sinks is also sometimes known as, or termed, a point-of-use water filter.
A sink water filter is not the same as an under sink filter because of how it is connected to your supply. The under sink filter is connected to the plumbing that is present below the sink. Hence, in these types of filters, the water goes through the filtering process before it even reaches the faucet rather than being attached to the taps.
Sink fitting water filters can be complex or simple and there are many different types and levels of cost for consumers to choose from. Most of these types of filters have been designed to only remove sediments that may be present within the water. The sediment particles may include substances examples such as sand, gravel, mud, etc. These types of sediments are effectively removed from the water supply by sink water filters, which generally do not permit any particle bigger than 0.5 microns in size to escape being filtered out. This is the size of a small pinhead.
Some of the more complex sink filters are also designed to remove microbes from the water supply. This more efficient process makes the water biologically pure. They are also good for removing specific odors, particularly the odor of chlorine, a substance which is added during the water treatment process carried out by water authorities. If water has an odor of chlorine, a sink water filter can easily eliminate it. There are even more sophisticated water filtration systems that have been designed to remove specific minerals from water too. An example mineral filtered by these would be lead.
Water filters for sinks are generally quite low cost and often the installation is relatively simple. They are designed to be directly attached to the taps. For these reasons, they are among the most popular of the water filtration systems… low cost and easy to install.
