Resveratrol Dosage

Resveratrol Dosage Information You Should Know

By now you may have heard some of the hype surrounding resveratrol, and you’re probably trying to figure out how to add it to your diet. It’s a natural compound proven to be effective in fighting cancer, preventing heart disease, and stopping the aging effects of oxidation. But if you want to use this antioxidant to improve your health, I’ll let you know the resveratrol dosage information you ought to know.

Foods

The nutrient occurs naturally in some foods, like red wine, pine nuts and darkly colored grapes. While it does exist in these foods, they are often not a dependable source. The reason for this is that the compound is sensitive to sunlight and oxygen.

Exposure to these things damages the nutrient so that you have no idea how much or what quality you are getting when you consume these foods.

Wine

The widespread use of chemicals and pesticides has also made measurements of nutrients in food unreliable. Thus the best way to get the antioxidant into your diet is to use supplements. Studies have proven that there is only about 1mg of the antioxidant in 5oz of red wine, on average.

In order to get the benefits, you’d have to drink a large amount of wine, which has other, negative effects on health. A glass of wine a day is healthy, but it doesn’t give you the maximum effects this nutrient can bring.

Dosage

Since resveratrol is so popular, lots of companies sell supplements with 100mg to 200mg of it inside. They assume that high quantities of the nutrient will mean a quality product. Don’t let this logic trick you.

Just because there is a high amount of the nutrient does not necessarily mean that it’s potent. The nutrient has two types, trans and cis.

The trans type – the natural type – has greater potency.

The cis type is cheaper because it’s processed from the trans. Other companies might sell supplements with high dosages of the nutrient, but it’s the low potency cis type.

You should seek out a supplement containing 50% of the natural trans type. Some supplements contain only 10% and don’t even mention that fact on the label. There is also the factor of absorption. Our stomach acid often prevents supplements from being absorbed properly by the body. Enteric coating helps guarantee the nutrient makes it into the bloodstream to help you get more out of the product.

Recommended

As for other resveratrol dosage information, the best amount is a daily dosage containing between 20 and 50mg. Too much can affect the liver in some people over the long term, but healthy amounts are fine.
